The new indexes from the United States are ONLINE! A new proof and this one brings some changes to the American Holstein proofs. CDCB has rebuilt the way female fertility is calculated. Two traits you already know are getting a new way of calculation, and one brand new trait joins the list. For DPR - Daughter Pregnancy Rate. The old formula assumed every farm waited exactly 50 days after calving before breeding again. In reality that ranges from 40 to 90 days, and that is a management choice, not genetics. The new formula uses each herd's real waiting period. Cow Conception Rate. Changing for a completely different reason: the old model treated all semen as equal, while sexed, beef and conventional semen do not have the same success rate. The new formula corrects for it.
New is the trait FSC — First Service to Conception. A brand new trait, measured in days. It counts only what happens after the first insemination, so the farmer's decision on when to start breeding is left out entirely. That makes it the cleanest look at fertility itself.
